Cinema Recording Time Calculator
Estimate recording duration using the camera's actual format, sensor mode, frame rate and media capacity.
Recording Time & Sensor Modes
The sensor mode changes both readout speed and data rate. Maximum frame rates vary by resolution; values shown are format-level limits, not guarantees for every camera configuration.
How this estimate works
The displayed baseline is an approximate media rate at 24 fps for the selected camera, codec and sensor mode. For other frame rates, the estimator scales that baseline linearly. Variable-bitrate RAW formats can vary with image detail, compression setting, firmware and camera mode, so verify critical jobs against the manufacturer's recording-rate tables and allow extra media headroom.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Open Gate increase recording time usage?
Usually, yes. Open Gate records a taller sensor area and more pixels per frame than a cropped 16:9 mode. The exact difference depends on the camera, codec, compression and frame rate.
Does Super 35 mean a different sensor?
Not necessarily. On many large-format cameras it is a crop or window of the same sensor; on a dedicated Super 35 camera it may describe the sensor format itself. The mode can change resolution, available frame rates and data rate.
Are the recording times exact?
They are estimates. RAW compression can be variable, card capacity may be formatted differently, and camera settings such as codec quality, resolution, frame rate and firmware affect the final file size.
